# Downloading

**Download** on any file, or select several and choose **Download Selected**.

## Choose a size

Downloads are offered at four sizes. Picking the right one matters: the original of a
modern camera file is often twenty times the size the job needs.

| | |
|---|---|
| **Original** | Full resolution, original format. Archive, print, handing to an editor. |
| **Large (4096px)** | Print and high-resolution work. |
| **Medium (2048px)** | General use, presentations. |
| **Small (1024px)** | Web, email, social sharing. |

The resize happens on the way out. The file in the library is untouched.

## Download in bulk

Select the files (or open an album and select all) and choose **Download Selected**.

Small selections download as individual files. Larger ones are packaged into a **ZIP**
prepared in the background: you will see *Preparing download…* with a per-file progress
count, and then *Download ready*. You can leave the screen while it works.

If part of a bulk download fails, the app reports how many files failed rather than
silently returning a short ZIP.

## Convert to PDF

**Convert to PDF** on an image produces a PDF of it. Use it for anything that has to go
into a document workflow that will not accept an image.

## Downloads from a share link

Recipients of a [share link](/guide/media/share-links) get the same size choices, and
their downloads are counted on the link's record, so you can see what was taken.

## When Download is missing

If **Download** is not available, your role does not include it. Some workspaces
deliberately assign `Media Viewer`: browse and search, but not export. See [permissions
and access](/guide/admin/permissions).
